The Slow Food Experience

Before the ‘fresh and local’ mantra was on everyone’s lips, before we all started reading foodie magazines and watching reality shows on the Food Channel, there was the Red Door.  From its opening in 1998, the restaurant was committed to the principles of the slow food movement that had sprung up in Italy and on the West Coast.  Real ingredients, real preparation, real cooking, real people, and really good food!  Eating at the Red Door is not just about ordering a dish off the menu; it is about the experience, the enjoyment, and the memories.  We want you to remember not just what you eat in our restaurant, but how it tastes, how it feels, and… well, you go ahead and fill in the blanks!  Obviously we buy fresh, local and organic wherever possible – that is almost the easy part!  But we prepare all our base stocks, all of our sauces, and all of our basic ingredients (such as pasta) in our kitchen.  And then we cook it to order.

What does this mean for you, the customer?  As you take your table and our wonderful wait-staff attend to you, you will notice that we care about the details.  Our bread is baked fresh in Moscow by Nels Peterson and Panhandle Artisan Bakery.  We provide you with dipping oil made from fine olive oil that we have infused with herbs and garlic and our own balsamic vinaigrette.  The salad that comes with your entrees will have one of our signature house dressings.  And your food will be cooked to order by Chef Hal Jardine and our experienced kitchen staff.  Our wine and beer list is extensive, featuring both local and regional wines, along with a good selection of their counterparts from overseas.  And our new designer cocktail menu features our very own juice mixers and infusions.

When you come through our door – and yes, it is indeed red! – we invite you to step into a food lover’s paradise.  We want you to sit back, relax, and let us take care of you.  Above all, we celebrate a world where good food, good drink, and good company is and should be at the center of all of our lives!
